What happens when you uninstall
Leaving should be as clean as installing. This page says exactly what happens the moment you uninstall HonestTag: what stops, what we tidy up, when your data is deleted, and the billing facts with no hedging.
Tracking stops immediately
The moment Shopify tells us you uninstalled, HonestTag stops collecting and sending anything for your store: no pageviews, no orders, no conversions sent anywhere.
We tidy our footprint in your Google Ads account
If you connected Google Ads, HonestTag created its own conversion actions there (named HonestTag_*) and held an access grant you approved. On uninstall (and on a plain disconnect inside the app) we make a best-effort cleanup while our stored access is still valid:
- Conversion actions: every
HonestTag_*conversion action is marked removed in your account. Google's reference for a removed action says: "Conversions will not be recorded." (ConversionActionStatus). - Access: we revoke our own OAuth grant. You can also revoke it yourself at myaccount.google.com/linkedapps.
"Best effort" means honestly that: if the token is already dead when the cleanup runs, we cannot reach your account. In that case you can finish in two minutes yourself: remove the actions in Google Ads under Goals → Conversions, and revoke access at myaccount.google.com/linkedapps. We also revoke our sign-in grants at Klaviyo and Reddit where you connected them that way. Other connection credentials held only on our side are deleted with your data below.
Your data is deleted on Shopify's signal
Shopify sends every app a formal redaction request about 48 hours after uninstall. When it arrives, we remove your store's data from active service systems within 48 hours, except some per-order delivery records described in section B7 of the privacy policy. Before that deletion, we create an isolated safety snapshot so an authenticated but mistaken purge cannot irreversibly destroy your data; snapshots and ordinary backups are access-restricted, never used for advertising delivery or normal product access, and deleted on a rolling schedule within 30 days, exactly as the privacy policy states. If you reinstall before the redaction arrives, your data and history are still there and the store picks up where it left off.
The billing facts, stated plainly
HonestTag bills through Shopify's own billing system, every 30 days or, on annual billing, once every 365 days. Two things merchants deserve to know before pressing the button, not after:
- Shopify cancels the HonestTag subscription at uninstall. The unused part of the paid period is not refunded.
- If you reinstall before that period ends, you keep the remainder. You can approve a new plan during the last 3 days of that period so delivery does not stop.
If a charge ever looks genuinely wrong, write in and we will sort it out. We do not argue about small amounts.
Before you go
If something is not working the way this site says it should, we do not charge a separate support fee to investigate a suspected HonestTag defect, on any plan (plan limits, custom work, and work required by a third-party platform remain governed by the applicable plan and terms). And you never need to uninstall another tracker to try one, and the same is true in reverse: HonestTag runs happily alongside whatever you keep.
