Setup and billing: what you do, and who bills you
By the HonestTag team ยท Published October 13, 2026
You set HonestTag up yourself, inside Shopify admin. There is no theme code to edit, no container or server to host, no setup fee and no mandatory onboarding call. There is no hosting to pay for, paid plans are billed through Shopify once the App Store listing is live, and the free Mirror costs nothing.
What HonestTag sets up for you
When you open HonestTag in Shopify admin, it adds its own pixel and asks Shopify to send it your orders. The pixel is a Shopify web pixel, so there is no code to paste into your theme and none to remove later.
What you do yourself
- Connect the accounts you use. Each ad platform has its own card on the Setup tab. Some connect when you sign in to the platform. Others ask for an account ID, or a key or token you create in that platform's own settings. Each card says what it needs and what it sends.
- Pick one purchase source per platform. If another app already sends your purchases to a platform, decide which one that platform should count. Duplicate purchase events explains why, and switching apps shows how HonestTag helps you check.
- Optional: one DNS record. On Starter and up you can move the tracking address to your own domain. See your own tracking domain. Skip it and nothing about what is measured changes.
When you need a developer
Only if your storefront is headless, built with Hydrogen or another framework instead of a Shopify theme. Then a short piece of code on your storefront records the ad click. Headless and Hydrogen stores has the code and the steps. A store on a Shopify theme needs none of it.
Getting help
Write to us from the support page. There is no setup fee and no mandatory onboarding call. If HonestTag itself misbehaves, we do not charge a separate support fee to look into a suspected defect, on any plan.
Who bills you
- Shopify. Once the App Store listing is live, HonestTag bills through Shopify's own billing system: you approve charges inside Shopify, and they appear on your Shopify invoice.
- No hosting bill. HonestTag runs its tracking and sending on its own service. There is no hosting account, server or container for you to pay for.
- The Mirror is free. It compares what Google Ads, Meta, Microsoft Advertising, TikTok and Criteo report about themselves with what your store recorded, and it never sends anything to an ad platform. It needs no paid plan here or anywhere else.
- Paid plans. A store's first paid plan comes with a 21-day free trial, once per store, shown on Shopify's approval screen. If delivery starts late, the trial may be extended until the store has 7 days of live delivery data, up to 35 days in all. Prices are flat by plan, with no overage fees, and your bill changes only when you approve it. If your sales or traffic move past your plan and you do not approve the plan that covers them, delivery pauses after a 5-day grace period and full reporting locks; the free Mirror stays and nothing is deleted. See pricing.
- Leaving. Uninstalling ends billing. The unused part of a paid period is not refunded, and if you reinstall before that period ends, you keep the remainder. See what happens when you uninstall.
