How to request data deletion

This page tells you how to ask HonestTag to delete data, what gets deleted, and how long it takes. It covers merchants who install the app and shoppers who bought from a store that uses it.

If you are a shopper

Ask the store you bought from. HonestTag processes shopper data on behalf of the merchant, not for itself, so the store is the one that decides and we act on their instruction. Once the store submits your deletion request in Shopify, Shopify passes it to us automatically, on Shopify's own timetable: if you ordered from the store in the last six months, Shopify holds the request until six months have passed.

What we hold about a shopper in the analytics data plane is deliberately small: a random visitor id, advertising click identifiers, order linkage, and reported conversion values, with no raw email addresses or phone numbers. Raw Shopify webhook payloads may contain contact data while held in the durable processing inbox. Successful payloads are cleared after processing, and failed dead-letter payloads are purged within 30 days. Where identifiers have to be hashed for an ad platform, the hashing happens in memory and the original is discarded after processing.

If you are a merchant

Use the support form and choose "Privacy / data request", or email support@honesttag.com from the address on the account. Say which store domain the request covers. We read every one.

Uninstalling the app also starts deletion on its own. What happens when you uninstall covers that path in full.

What gets deleted

The store's attribution history, its order proof records, the stored click identifiers, and the account and usage data tied to the merchant user. On a full store deletion the daily aggregates are deleted too; raw analytics event rows expire on their own within three months.

How long it takes

Requests are actioned promptly and within the window Shopify sets for privacy requests. For a request you send us, you will get confirmation when it is done rather than an assurance that it was queued. The uninstall path emails you once, at uninstall, saying what happens next.

Before you delete, consider exporting

Deletion is final. If you want your measurement history for your own records, export it first. The export is in the app, and it keeps working after you cancel a paid plan for as long as the app stays installed; uninstalling ends it.

What we cannot delete

Data that has already been delivered to an ad platform on the merchant's instruction lives in that platform's account, not ours. The supported destination list is Google Ads, Meta, Klaviyo, Microsoft Advertising, TikTok, Google Analytics 4, Pinterest, Snapchat, Reddit and OpenAI Ads. Deleting data there is a request made from the ad account that received it. We can tell you exactly what was sent and when, because every delivery carries a proof record. For TikTok, that record reflects batch acceptance from TikTok Events API, not per-event processing confirmation.

One kind of record of ours is not yet fully reached by deletion: the per-order delivery record, which notes which ad platforms an order, refund, cancellation or order edit was sent to, keyed by its Shopify order or refund ID, with no visitor ID or contact details. Privacy policy section B7 says which of these a deletion removes and which remain.

Still stuck

Write to support@honesttag.com. If a request has gone unanswered, say so in the subject line and it gets escalated rather than queued.
