Connect Criteo to your Shopify reporting
By the HonestTag team ยท Published October 16, 2026
HonestTag reads your Criteo advertiser's daily cost, clicks and displays, and the sales Criteo attributes to its own ads, so Criteo spend counts in your Shopify reporting beside every other ad platform and Criteo's claim sits next to what your store recorded. The connection is read only: HonestTag sends Criteo nothing. You connect it by signing in to Criteo from the Criteo card in the HonestTag app. This page lists what you need, the steps, what is read and how it is shown, and how to check it works.
What you need
- A Criteo login with access to the advertiser. Criteo's authorization requests page says "The following roles can grant or deny access:" and lists Admin, Business Managers and Technical Managers.
- Nothing to copy or paste. Criteo issues API access to registered apps, and the advertiser grants it on Criteo's own page. Criteo says "your users must delegate permissions for one or more Criteo advertisers they oversee for your application to function." There is no key to generate.
- Any HonestTag plan. Criteo is read only on every plan, the free Mirror included, and it takes none of a paid plan's delivery slots. See pricing.
Connect Criteo, step by step
- Open the Criteo card. In your Shopify admin, open the HonestTag app, go to Setup, and find the Criteo card.
- Choose Connect Criteo. HonestTag sends you to Criteo's consent page. Log in with your Criteo credentials.
- Approve the advertiser. On Criteo's access request page, select the advertiser account for this store and click Approve. An Admin, Business Manager or Technical Manager of that advertiser can approve it.
- Pick the advertiser. Back on the card, the advertiser is filled in when you approved exactly one. If you approved several, choose the one for this store and save. HonestTag only accepts an advertiser your sign-in was granted.
- Wait for the first read. HonestTag starts reading Criteo's daily report and fills in past months in the background. Criteo spend then appears beside your other ad platforms.
Criteo's consent page is where you choose what to share: it lets you "select which advertisers to grant access to and approve the request." HonestTag asks for read access to statistics only. The store reads one advertiser, and its ID only ever comes from the list your own sign-in was granted, so no store can be pointed at another advertiser's spend. If you connect again later and the advertiser is no longer on your list, HonestTag clears it rather than read the wrong account.
What HonestTag reads from Criteo
One daily report for your advertiser from Criteo's statistics report endpoint, with these figures for each day:
- Cost (
AdvertiserCost), which Criteo defines as "Total money spent on Criteo advertising." - Clicks, which Criteo defines as "The number of clicks driven by your ads."
- Displays, which Criteo defines as "The number of ad impressions served on publishers via Criteo."
- Post-click sales and revenue (
SalesAllPc30d,RevenueGeneratedAllPc30d): sales Criteo attributes to a click on its ad within 30 days. - Post-view sales and revenue (
SalesAllPv24h,RevenueGeneratedAllPv24h): sales Criteo attributes to an ad being seen within 24 hours.
Criteo's metric names follow the pattern "[Measurement][Devices][AttributionModel][LookbackWindow]" on its Campaign Statistics page. "All" is the device part: "Cross-device sales are sales that occurred on a different device than the one where the click occurred. Specifying All includes cross-device sales." HonestTag reads the All figures because they are the whole of what Criteo attributes to itself.
The report is asked for in your shop's currency when Criteo supports it, and in US dollars otherwise, which HonestTag converts or flags like any other foreign-currency spend. Days are cut in your shop's time zone when Criteo supports it, and in UTC otherwise; the card and the comparison then say the days are offset.
How Criteo shows up in HonestTag
- Spend: Criteo cost counts in Spend, MER and NCAC, beside your other ad platforms, against the orders your store recorded.
- Criteo's claim: the comparison shows the post-click figure as what Criteo claims, labeled "post-click sales, 30-day window, cross-device included". The post-view figure is shown beside it, labeled "post-view sales, 24-hour window, cross-device included", and is never added to it. Criteo's page does not say whether the two overlap, which is one reason they are kept apart.
- The free Mirror includes Criteo, so a store on the free plan sees Criteo's claim beside the orders it recorded.
- First-click new customers: HonestTag does not yet attribute an order's first click to Criteo, so the first-click new customer column reads 0 on the Criteo row, and the row says so. Because nothing is delivered to Criteo, no claim-against-delivery verdict is shown for it either.
To see how platform claims compare with first-click new customers, read first-click attribution and NCAC.
How fresh the numbers are
HonestTag reads Criteo every hour (today and yesterday, as UTC dates) and reads the last 7 days again each night. When you first connect, it fills in the past 13 months in the background. The nightly re-read is there because of how Criteo reports: its rate limits page says "most spend and attribution data stabilize within 72-74 hours. Minor updates may occur for up to 120 hours." and "Attributed sales are assigned to days on a sale-day basis, not event-day." A sale Criteo credits to an ad shown last week is counted on the day of the sale.
What HonestTag never sends or touches
- Never sends: anything to Criteo. No orders, customers, events or hashed identifiers leave HonestTag for Criteo, on any plan.
- Never changes: campaigns, ad sets, budgets, bids, audiences or catalogs. The connection reads the advertiser list your sign-in was granted and the statistics report, nothing else.
How to check it works
- On the card. After you connect, the Criteo card shows the advertiser name and ID it reads.
- In your reporting. Within the hour, Criteo appears with spend for the most recent days, and earlier months fill in as the background read completes.
- Against Criteo. Compare a past day's cost with the same day in Criteo. If your shop's time zone or currency is not one Criteo supports, the days or amounts are offset, and the card says which.
Error messages and what to do
- "this Criteo sign-in was not given access to advertiser ..." The advertiser was not ticked on Criteo's consent page. Use Connect Criteo again and tick it, or choose one from the list.
- "Criteo no longer accepts this sign-in. Use Connect Criteo again." The sign-in has expired or was withdrawn. Criteo says its refresh token "expires after 6 months" and "will be revoked if the user changes roles or leaves the organization", in which case "The account must be re-authorized through the consent flow by a new administrator."
- "Criteo says this sign-in no longer has access. Use Connect Criteo again and approve the advertiser." Access was removed on Criteo's side, for example through Criteo's consent dashboard.
- "the connected Criteo login can no longer reach advertiser ..." Connect Criteo again with a login that has access, or pick a different advertiser on the card.
- "Criteo did not list this sign-in's advertisers (...)" Criteo did not give a usable answer. Nothing was saved; try again in a minute.
Disconnecting
Disconnect from the Criteo card, or uninstall the app. Spend reads stop at once and the stored sign-in is deleted. Everything already read stays, per the published retention schedule. To remove HonestTag's access on Criteo's side as well, Criteo says "Advertisers can manage and revoke access through the consent dashboard."
Frequently asked questions
Can I see Criteo spend next to my Shopify sales?
Yes. Once Criteo is connected, HonestTag reads Criteo's daily cost for your advertiser and counts it in Spend, MER and NCAC beside your other ad platforms, against the orders your Shopify store recorded.
Does HonestTag send my orders to Criteo?
No. The Criteo connection is read only. HonestTag reads Criteo's report and sends Criteo nothing: no orders, no customers and no events, on any plan.
Why does Criteo claim more sales than HonestTag shows?
Criteo counts sales it attributes to its own ads, after a click (within 30 days) or after an ad was seen (within 24 hours), and includes sales on another device. HonestTag shows those figures as Criteo's claim, keeps the post-view part separate, and compares the claim with what your store recorded.
Who can connect Criteo?
Anyone who can approve access for the advertiser on Criteo's consent page. Criteo says the roles that can grant or deny access are Admin, Business Managers and Technical Managers.
Is Criteo available on the free plan?
Yes. The free Mirror is read only, and so is Criteo, so the Mirror shows Criteo's claim beside the orders your store recorded. Criteo also takes none of a paid plan's delivery slots, because HonestTag delivers nothing to it.
How often is Criteo data updated?
HonestTag reads Criteo every hour and reads the last 7 days again each night, because Criteo says its figures can still change for up to 120 hours.
