Connect an AI tool to your HonestTag numbers

By the HonestTag team · Published October 7, 2026

On the Scale and Scale+ plans, an AI tool that can add a remote MCP server (Model Context Protocol, sometimes called a custom connector) can read the same scorecard and Gap your Analytics page shows, so you can ask it about your own numbers. The access is read-only and covers totals only: no shopper data, no order rows, and nothing it can change.

What the tool can read

HonestTag offers the tool two read-only tools:

The windows are today, yesterday, 7d, mtd, 30d, 60d, 90d, and the complete-day windows last7, last14, last28 and last30. Money is in your store currency.

HonestTag runs no AI model for this. It answers the tool with numbers it has already stored. Where the tool itself runs depends on the tool: on its provider's systems under that provider's terms, or as a program on your own computer.

Connect with sign-in

For tools that support sign-in.

  1. In your AI tool, add a remote MCP server (or custom connector) with this URL: https://app.honesttag.com/_ht/api/v1/mcp
  2. The tool opens a HonestTag sign-in page that shows its name, the address it returns to, and an 8-letter code. The code lasts 10 minutes.
  3. In Shopify admin, open the store, then Apps, then HonestTag. On the Analytics tab, find the Metrics API card and type the code under "AI tools (MCP)". Click Check code.
  4. Check that the name is the tool you just started from, then click Approve. Keep the sign-in tab open: it returns you to the tool by itself.

The approval happens inside your Shopify admin on purpose. The sign-in page alone cannot tell who is looking at it, so a link someone sends you can never connect their tool to your store.

Connect with your Metrics API key

Some tools take a URL and a request header instead of a sign-in. On the Metrics API card, click Generate key (Rotate key if the store already has one), then give the tool the same URL and this header: Authorization: Bearer followed by a space and your key. The key is shown once. Every tool you give the key to shares it: none of them is listed on the card, and the only way to cut one off is to rotate the key, which stops every tool using it. Rotating also disconnects every tool that signed in on the card.

Disconnect a tool

The Metrics API card lists every tool that connected with sign-in, with the date it was last used. Click Disconnect next to one and it can no longer read your store. A tool that uses your key stops when you rotate the key. Uninstalling HonestTag ends every connection at once.
