Partner Program Terms

Version 1.1 (September 28, 2026): adds annual plans to sections 2, 4 and 5. Effective date to be set when the program opens.

1. What the program is

The HonestTag partner program pays a recurring commission to people and companies (each a "partner") who refer Shopify stores that install HonestTag and subscribe to a paid tier. Joining requires an approved application; we review each one and may decline or remove partners at our discretion for the reasons in section 7.

2. The commission

• Rate: 20%, recurring, for the life of the referred subscription. There is no 12-month or 24-month sunset. As long as the referred store's subscription is active and paid, commission accrues.
• Base: net revenue. Commission is calculated on the store's app charge minus what Shopify keeps before remitting to us: today its 2.9% processing fee, plus its 15% revenue share if and when that applies to us under Shopify's published terms. We pay 20% of what we actually receive.
• The commission follows the subscription. It applies to every paid tier, and to upgrades, downgrades, and future price changes of the referred store. Stores on the free Mirror accrue nothing until they move to a paid plan.
• Accrual requires active and paid. Months in which the referred subscription is frozen, canceled, or unpaid do not accrue commission.
• Annual plans. A store on an annual plan pays once a year. Commission is 20% of the net annual payment and accrues in the month that payment is made, not one twelfth a month. Each renewal is a new annual payment. If an annual store upgrades during its term, Shopify charges a prorated amount for the rest of the term, and commission is 20% of the net prorated amount.

3. Attribution and disputes

• The install-time tag is the source of truth. When a store installs HonestTag through your referral link, or with your code recorded from a waitlist signup or application made through your link, that store is permanently tagged with your partner code at install. That tag decides every commission and wins any dispute about who referred a store.
• One tag per store, set once. A store carries at most one partner tag. Once set, it does not change. Later clicks on someone else's link do not reassign it.
• Last click wins, then the tag locks. If a merchant clicks more than one partner's link, the most recent referral code before install gets the credit. That is the standard last-click rule used across the affiliate industry. Landing on honesttag.com with a referral code tags the visit: the code is held in a single first-party cookie for 60 days (a newer partner's click replaces it), travels in the page addresses while the visitor browses, and is recorded the moment they join the waitlist or apply. Waitlist signups made through your link are recorded with your code, and we honor that code when the store installs. After install the tag is permanent: later clicks, link swaps, and reinstalls never move the commission.
• Reinstalls keep the original tag, unless the store had been uninstalled for more than 180 days, in which case a new install may be attributed fresh.
• Ad-account connections are not attribution. Connecting a store's conversions through a Google Ads manager account (MCC) neither creates nor transfers referral credit.

4. Payouts

• Monthly, net-30. Commissions accrued in a calendar month are paid within 30 days after that month ends, which mirrors the lag on Shopify's own remittance to us.
• Annual-plan hold. Commission on an annual payment or an annual upgrade has a 60-day hold: it is pending for 60 days from the date of the charge. On day 60 it becomes payable and is paid in the next monthly payout, net-30, under the same $50 minimum. Commission on monthly plans has no hold.
• $50 minimum. Balances below $50 roll over until the minimum is met. Nothing expires or is forfeited by rolling over.
• Method: PayPal only, sent to the PayPal email you provide. We never collect or store bank details.
• Tax forms first. A completed W-9 (US partners) or W-8BEN (non-US partners) must be on file before your first payout. You are responsible for your own taxes on program income.

5. Clawbacks

Commission mirrors real money. If a referred merchant receives a refund, wins a chargeback, or Shopify reverses a billing event, the commission attributable to that revenue is deducted. If that commission is still pending in the 60-day annual-plan hold, the pending amount is canceled. If it has already been paid, it is deducted from your next payout. If your balance cannot cover a clawback, it carries as a negative balance against future accruals.

6. What partners may not do

• No self-referral. You may not earn commission on stores you own or operate, directly or through an affiliated entity. An agency referring its clients' stores is the intended use of this program and is expressly allowed.
• No brand bidding. Do not bid on "HonestTag" or confusingly similar terms in any advertising platform, and do not use them in ad copy designed to intercept people already looking for us.
• No coupon or deal-site listings. Referral codes may not be published on coupon, discount, or deal aggregation sites.
• No incentivized installs. Paying, rebating, or otherwise compensating merchants to install HonestTag does not create a valid referral.
• No misrepresentation. Do not present yourself as HonestTag, promise features or pricing we have not published, or imply an endorsement we have not given.

7. Abuse and removal

Breaking section 6, or otherwise gaming attribution, ends the deal: we may remove your partner tags from affected stores and you forfeit unpaid commissions. For honest mistakes we will say so and work it out first. Removal is for abuse, not paperwork errors.

8. Changes to these terms

We may amend these terms, and amendments apply prospectively only: they take effect for referrals made after the change, with notice to active partners. The commission terms attached to your existing referred stores do not change retroactively.
